In Berrien County, there are laws that apply to dog owners. These can be found in the Berrien County Ordinances. Specifically, they are as follows:

Sec. 10-32.  Running at large.

It shall be unlawful for the owner of a dog or the owner's authorized agent to allow a dog to stray beyond the premises of the owner or the premises of the owner's authorized agent, unless held properly on a leash not exceeding six feet in length.

Sec. 10-38.  Fierce or vicious dogs; bites from rabid animals.

It shall be unlawful for any person in the village to own or harbor a fierce or vicious dog or a dog that has been bitten by any animal known to have been afflicted with rabies.
