Case Type: Medical Malpractice
Settlement: Confidential

Facts of the Case

This case involved a 65-year-old woman who was presented to the hospital with signs and symptoms of a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) and/or stroke. Instead of administering the clot-busting agent tPA, the decision was made to simply observe her. Her neurologic condition continued to deteriorate while she was being monitored but no medical interventions took place. Unfortunately, she suffered a massive stroke several hours later resulting in her having little or no function in her left arm and/or leg. She now requires extensive care to assist her with her everyday needs and activities.

Types of Injuries and Harm Suffered

  • Pain and suffering
  • Permanent loss of use of left arm and leg
  • Difficulties with all activities of daily living

Other Types of Damages

  • Need for additional supervision, care and therapies

Legal Issues in the Case

  • Whether the patient was a candidate for tPA
  • Whether she was initially experiencing a stroke
  • How much better would she have been had her stroke being diagnosed and treated sooner
