Our Michigan medical malpractice lawyers recently filed a bed sore lawsuit against Mercy Hospital Cadillac in Cadillac, Michigan. The suit was filed on behalf of a fifty-four year old woman who was admitted to the hospital with a fever and chills consistent with a urinary tract infection. The patient remained primarily in bed during her hospitalization due to her condition.
While admitted to the hospital, she was not provided with any type of special mattress, was not tuned regularly, and did not receive appropriate wound care. As a result, she developed a Stage IV (the most severe type) bedsore, or pressure ulcer. The National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) classifies a bedsore as a Stage IV when “The pressure ulcer has become so deep that there is damage to the muscle and bone, and sometimes tendons and joints.”
Due to this condition, she required significant additional medical care. This included multiple surgical debridements to treat the wound. The sore caused significant pain and suffering and caused an extremely large scar.
The medical malpractice lawsuit was filed in the Wexford County Circuit Court. It seeks compensation for the pain and suffering and other non-economic damages suffered by our client. It also seeks payment expenses for the related medical care and treatment. No trial date has been set by the court.
