Our Michigan medical malpractice lawyers recently filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against a Kent County Urgent Care facility. The lawsuit alleges medical negligence by two family medicine physician for failing to timely diagnose impending stroke in a 69 year old woman. The suit alleges that prompt diagnosis would have led to treatment that would have minimized the damages from the stroke.
The lawsuit claims that the woman was taken to a Kent County urgent care facility with left sided weakness, dizziness and confusion after feeling something “go off in her head” while driving. The family medicine physicians that saw her did not follow a stroke protocol. She was not seen by a neurologist and was discharged home within a few hours with a diagnosis of vertigo.
While at home, she became unable to walk and was taken to a local hospital where she was diagnosed with having sustained a large stroke affecting the left side of her body. It was too late for her to receive tPA and/or any other meaningful medical and/or surgical intervention(s). As a result, she has been left with left-sided hemiplegia and significant speech deficits.
A medical malpractice lawsuit has been filed on the injured patient’s behalf. Our Kent County medical malpractice lawsuit seeks damages for the pain and suffering that the patient has endured and will continue to endure the rest of her life. It also seeks economic losses for lost wages, loss of household services, the cost of durable medical equipment, the need for attendant care, and medical bills have been and will be incurred as a result of the alleged malpractice. No trial date has been set by the court.
