The Detroit Free Press Marathon is one of the country’s largest annual marathons that expands across international lines. The marathon that raised more than $400,000 for different charities last year starts at the United States side of the Ambassador Bridge entrance then travels through the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, historic neighborhoods, Belle Isle, and along the Detroit RiverWalk.
The Detroit marathon expands across 26.2 miles of land, giving participants a total of 6 hours to complete. There are 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes, however everyone is commended on their hard efforts to push through and raise a tremendous amount of money. According to the Detroit Free Press, 18% of the finishers were 45-54 years of age, 7% were 55-64 years of age, and 2% were 65 years and over.
