A medical malpractice lawsuit was recently filed against William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan for a patient who suffered serious injuries as a result from a fall from his bed. He was initially admitted to the hospital after a knee surgery and fell from his bed a few days later, fracturing his hip. He required surgery for that injury.
After his fall, the hospital recognized that he was a fall risk and assigned a sitter to watch him to prevent any other falls. He then fell from his bed again, this time suffering a fracture to his elbow which also required surgery. The sitter was apparently absent from the room.
The lawsuit seeks damages for his pain and suffering and disability. It also seeks recoupment of medical expenses incurred due to his injuries. The matter is pending in the Oakland County Circuit Court. No trial date has been set.
