Our child dog bite lawyers recently settled a lawsuit for a young girl who suffered serious injuries when she was bitten by a relative’s dog. She was a guest at the relative’s home when the dog bit her in her face. She suffered a significant laceration to her face and nose. Despite medical treatment, she has a noticeable scar on her face.
Children are often the victims of dog bites suffering serious injuries due to the attack, including scars and disfigurement. In many families, dogs play an important role as guards, companions, and friends. Unfortunately this partnership is not without problems. In recent years, it has become more and more apparent that dog bites are a serious and underestimated public health problem. In fact, children who are younger than 10 years of age represent the high-risk group for dog attacks.
This partly may be in reason due to the fact that children tend to underestimate the danger arising from dogs because they are more inexperienced than adults in their interaction with dogs. This is confirmed by studies showing that children are more likely to sustain dog bite wounds.
We filed a lawsuit against the relative and the homeowner’s insurance company defended the claim. After depositions of witnesses, the insurance company agreed to pay the dog bite victim a settlement of $150,000 to settle the case. Those funds will be placed into a structured annuity settlement for the girl to receive after she reaches the age of eighteen.
