Our dog bite lawyers in Macomb County recently won a substantial settlement for our seventy-six year old client. Our client was chased and then knocked down by a dog as she walked in a public street. She was also bitten by the dog on her thigh.
The dog that attacked her was a Jack Russell terrier. Through our investigation, we discovered that the same dog was involved in two previous dog bite attacks. The dog was not on a leash at the time of the attack, which is in violation of the Michigan dog bite statute.
The woman suffered serious injuries as a result of being knocked down by the dog. This included fractured thoracic vertebrae which caused significant pain and discomfort. She also struck her head on the cement when she fell and complained of symptoms from that injury. She has not fully recovered from those injuries.
We filed a dog attack lawsuit in the Macomb County Circuit Court inMount Clemens,Michigan. Numerous depositions of witnesses were taken and of treating medical doctors. Shortly before the scheduled jury trial, the case settled for $150,000 which is considered by those in the legal community to be a substantial settlement for this case. The settlement will be paid by the homeowner’s insurance company for the dog owner.
