Lawsuit Filed For Dog Bite To Hand in Waterford Township MI

A Michigan dog bite lawsuit was recently filed on behalf of a victim attacked in Waterford Township, Michigan.  Our dog bite attorneys are representing the victim, a 51-year-old man who suffers significant injuries as a result of the animal attack.

Our client was working as a technician at the Defendant’s (dog owner’s) home on a scheduled visit to inspect their heater.  The Defendant owned a Rottweiler. When our client was passing by the Defendant’s Rottweiler inside the home, the dog suddenly and without provocation bit his hand and violently shook it back and forth.

Michigan is a strict liability state when it comes to dog bites. MCL 287.251 provides: “If a dog bites a person, without provocation while the person is on public property, or lawfully on private property, including the property of the owner of the dog, the owner of the dog shall be liable for any damages suffered by the person bitten, regardless of the form or viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness.”

Due to the fact that our client was lawfully on the dog owner’s property and the dog attacked our client without provoking the canine, the dog owners is responsible for the injuries suffered to our client.  The Defendant dog owner had auto owners insurance which does provide them coverage in this matter.

Injuries suffered by our client included two large bite marks to the palm of his hand and ulnar neuropathy.   He was not able to work for two months as two hands are required to perform his job duties. He also has been left with residual tingling and weakness in his thumb which impairs his abilities to enjoy his hobbies and recreational activities.

The Michigan dog bite lawsuit seeks damages for the pain and suffering our client has incurred.  The case was filed in the Oakland County Circuit Court in Pontiac, Michigan.  No trial date has been set by the Court.
