Our Michigan medical malpractice lawyers recently filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against a Henry Ford Macomb Hospital. The lawsuit alleges that an emergency medicine physician and neurologist were negligent for failing to timely diagnose and treat a 27 year old man with signs and symptoms of an impending stroke. The case seeks compensation for permanent injuries suffered due to medical negligence.
The patient presented with the inability to speak and right sided weakness, both of which were signs of a potential stroke. Based upon these symptoms, the doctors should have performed medical, neurologic, and radiologic studies on him to rule out a stroke. Had they done these tests, prompt and proper treatment could have been started.
Due to the failure to perform a proper stroke work-up, the patient did not receive the necessary medications. He also was not transferred to a larger hospital for brain surgery until he had suffered a massive stroke. Despite undergoing brain surgery, the man still has significant speech deficits, limited mobility and cannot use his right arm and/o hand.
A medical malpractice lawsuit has been filed on the injured patient’s behalf. The lawsuit seeks damages for the pain and suffering that the patient has endured and will continue to endure the rest of this life. It also seeks economic losses for lost wages, loss of household services, the cost of durable medical equipment, the need for attendant care, and medical bills have been and will be incurred as a result of the alleged malpractice. No trial date has been set by the court.
