While many children look forward to this night, many parents do not, as they are worried about their child’s safety. “Having three children of my own, I worry about my children on Halloween night.  As a resource to fellow parents, the personal injury lawyers at my firm has come up with what we think are the top most important safety tips for trick or treating. Following these easy safety tips will keep your child safe every Halloween,” says Partner and Attorney of Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C., Lawrence J. Buckfire.

These tips include:Halloween trick or treating safety tips

1. Children should always go out trick or treating accompanied by an adult. If you have a group of kids going, the parents should choose two or three of them to go along and keep an eye on things.

2. Make sure to find out if your city has a curfew and stick to the curfew times.

3. Plan a safe route ahead of time and check it during the daylight for such obstacles as broken sidewalks (or no sidewalks), construction timber, or other obstacles that could cause injury to your child or you.

4. Only trick or treat at houses that are lit. Residents who do not wish to be bothered leave their lights off as a sign; respect their preference by only going to houses that are lit.

5. Instruct your child not to eat any treats until they are brought home and examined by you, and to never go into a stranger’s home or vehicle.

6. Carry a flashlight, glow stick or make sure your child’s costume has reflective tape on their costume to make them more visible to cars.

7. Trick or treaters should walk, not run, when going house to house. Also instruct them to never cut through any back alleys, fields, or lawns — always stay in a populated area.

8. Keep your child hydrated and make sure they do not get over-heated.
