Gratiot County Medical Malpractice Verdict

Comments (0)
A jury awarded $1.8 million dollars to the family of a woman in a Gratiot County medical malpractice case.  The 42 year old woman was admitted to the hospital for abdominal pain and two days later had her gall bladder removed.  Several months later, she reported to another hospital and later died dued to sepsis, an infection, caused by the surgeon at the first surgery.  The lawsuit alleged that the surgeon clipped the woman's right hepatic duct which caused her death.

Although this verdict is significant, it will never bring justice to this woman whose life was taken due to the negligence of a surgeon.  It will also never bring her back to her family who misses her so dearly.  Like many important Michigan edical malpractice lawsuits, this should serve as notice to hospitals and physicians that they will be held accountable for acts of negligence and hopefully will help insure better patient safety in the future.
