EAST LANSING -- Former Michigan State University President Lou Anna K. Simon was reportedly served with a subpoena by federal marshals to summon her to testify before a Congressional subcommittee about the Larry Nassar controversy.
Simon accepted an invitation to speak at a May 22 hearing of the U.S. Senate's Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Insurance and Data Security, according to MLive Media Group.
Frederick Hill, a spokesman for the committee, stated that when the hearing was rescheduled for June 5, Simon's attorney claimed that she would not be available on that date "or any date," MLive reports.
Nassar worked as an osteopathic physician at the University for decades, pleaded guilty of multiple sex crimes committed during his time on staff, and was convicted in late January 2018. He is currently serving a 40- to 175-year federal sentence.
