The Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. food poisoning lawyers in Michigan are reporting a recent outbreak of salmonella poisoning linked to ground beef sold in two Macomb County Michigan stores. Both retails stores, Gab Halal Foods in Troy and Jouni Meats Inc. in Sterling Heights are now recalling the ground beef, claiming they may be contaminated with a strain of salmonella.
Nine people in the Southeast Michigan area have already become sick after eating this ground beef, with another eight salmonella infections nationally. Six out of those nine people who have been infected with the salmonella bacteria have become hospitalized. Infected victims range from ages 2 to 87.
According to the Michigan Department of Community Health, the salmonella infections have been linked to the consumption of kibbeh, a dish made with raw ground beef, and served at an unidentified Macomb County restaurant. The other cases are not linked to kibbeh, and the department is still looking into the source.
Gab Halal Foods has recalled about 550 pounds of ground beef. The recall includes ground beef wrapped in clear plastic without a label, sold between December 4, 2012 and December 10, 2012.
Jouni Meats Inc. has recalled 500 pounds of meat. The recall includes various size packages sold between December 4, 2012 and December 9, 2012.
