Detroit Police Abuse & Brutality Verdict

Comments (0)
A jury returned a verdict for more than $2.5 million against the City of Detroit in a lawsuit alleging police brutality.  The suit alleged that Detroit police stopped a 22 year old man in a routine traffic stop and beat him up, causing a head injury and a broken jaw.  He was not resisting arrest and he was not charged with any crime.

Police officers should be viewed as heros who put their lives on the line for us everytime they report to duty and these instances are a rare exception.  This verdict sends a message to law enforcement that the public will hold them accountable for using unreasonable and excessive force on citizens during the course of their duty.  Hopefully, this message will prevent similar instances in the future.  .
