Our Michigan medical malpractice lawyers recently settled a chiropractor malpractice case filed in the Oakland County Circuit Court. The lawsuit alleged that the patient sustained a permanent injury to her phrenic nerve as the result of an improper chiropractic manipulation. As a result of the damage caused to the patient’s phrenic nerve, she developed significant breathing difficulties and was no longer able to perform many of her daily activities.
Chiropractic treatment is often very effective in certain types of injuries and conditions. Many times, patients do not get adequate pain relief from more conventional methods of medicine and a chiropractor can be an excellent treatment option. However, there are occasions when patients suffer serious injuries due to the chiropractor’s spinal adjustments and spinal manipulations. In these situations, the injured patient may have a chiropractor malpractice lawsuit.
The chiropractor malpractice lawsuit was pending in the Oakland County Circuit Court. We completed the depositions of the parties and other matters and then attended a mediation for settlement purposes. After lengthy settlement discussions, the case was settled before the trial. The terms of the settlement are confidential under the settlement agreement.
