Belleville Driver Allegedly Flees Police, Then Hits Car

Ann Arbor-area accident lawyerA 23-year-old Ypsilanti man was arrested after fleeing a traffic stop then striking another car, according to the Michigan State Police via the Detroit News.

Troopers with the Special Enforcement Section, Hometown Security Team pulled the driver over near Interstate 94 and Rawsonville Road in Belleville at about 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, for speeding and failing to signal, authorities said in a statement.

When troopers asked for the man’s license, "he become verbally non-complaint then fled the scene," the release said.

The driver then exited to Huron from westbound I-94 and "ran the red light at the top of the ramp, colliding with a vehicle" heading north, state police said.

The occupants in the second vehicle, a 33-year-old woman and her 4-year-old son, were taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The Ypsilanti man was treated for minor injuries and taken into custody.

Troopers searching his vehicle also found two pounds of marijuana in a backpack, the Michigan State Police reported.

Why are We Reporting This Story on our Website?

Our website was created to provide important news and legal information to accident and injury victims throughout the state of Michigan. Quite often, insurance companies and their investigators meet with victims and their families shortly after an accident. They attempt to obtain evidence and information that will help them defend the case later and often get victims to sign statements that are against their own interest.

Our goal is to provide valuable information to victims and their family members to prevent them from being taken advantage of by the insurance companies and their attorneys. We offer free books to consumers so they can understand their legal rights, whether they choose to hire an attorney or handle the claim on their own. We have given away many thousands of free legal guides over the last ten years for this purpose.

If you or someone you care about is the subject of this story and would like it removed from our website, please e-mail [email protected] and we will remove it from our site.
