Our Michigan nursing home neglect lawyers recently filed a bed sore lawsuit against the Caretel of Tri Cities in Bay City, Michigan. The suit was filed on behalf of a seventy-five year old resident who was admitted to the nursing home for rehabilitation after a serious illness. She developed a serious sacral decubitus ulcer while in that facility.
Our client had suffered a brain aneurysm and required surgery to save her life. After the hospitalization, she was admitted to a Select Care facility for step down and rehabilitation. Due to her progress, she was then transferred to Caretel of Tri Cities in Bay City for 100 days as allowed by Medicare. Due to her conditions, she was determined to be a high risk for developing a bed sore at the facility.
A care plan was developed for her to prevent a decubitus ulcer but the nursing staff did not follow the plan. This would include tasks like daily assessments, turning the patient every two hours, keeping the area clean, and other basic prevention methods. As a result, she developed a Stage 4 bedsore. She became septic and has had very rough course of health as a result.
The nursing home lawsuit was filed in the Saginaw County Circuit Court. It seeks compensation for the pain and suffering and other non-economic damages suffered by our client. It also seeks payment of related medical care and treatment. No trial date has been set by the court.
