A Michigan medical malpractice case seeking wrongful death damages settled for $1,575,000 against a hospital emergency room and surgeon. The 41 year old patient went to the emergency department after swallowing a BBQ bristle. The surgeon performed a procedure and could not find the bristle and the man was discharged without a follow-up x-ray. He subsequently developed complications and died due to the bristle still being present and causing a severe infection, which led to his death.
