Over 300 residents phoned DTE Energy on Wednesday to report a possible Canton Township gas leak. The residents were alerted to the gas leak by an odorant added to the naturally-odorless natural gas. Although the smell turned out to be a false alarm caused by an injection pump's sticking in the "on" position, these residents did the right thing by immediately reporting the suspicious smell. If you ever encounter a foul odor (often similar to rotten eggs) in your home, leave immediately and call your gas company to report the possible gas leak.
