A class action lawsuit was filed yesterday against the Michigan Department of Human Services alleging that the state agency has poor record keeping, shoddy investigations, and poor oversight over the child foster care system. Reports and findings allege the physical and emotional abuse and neglect of many children placed into foster care settings through the agency. The purpose of the suit is to straighten out the system, to obtain more accountability, and to protect the health and welfare of children placed into the system.
