A Grand Rapids truck accident occurred when a semi jackknifed after swerving to avoid a deer. The accident closed one lane of I-196 near Fuller early morning on October 26, 2008. Fortunately no one was hurt. This accident is a great reminder to everyone to keep an eye out for deer, especially since October and November are the two worst months for deer-related car accidents. If you see a deer, do not swerve. Instead, grip the wheel firmly to keep control of the vehicle and brake. It is always better to hit the deer head on than to lose control of the vehicle in an attempt to avoid it. Cars that try to avoid the deer frequently crash into other vehicles, cross medians, or veer off the road. Don't veer for deer.
