The Monroe County region of Southeast Michigan region was witness to 4050 incidents of traffic Crashes in the year 2007. Out of the 324,174 traffic crashes recorded in the state of Michigan, the southeast region accounted for 140,115 traffic crashes (figure 2 of the report). Out of this, the City of Monroe accounted for a 4050 incidents (1.2%). The traffic crash rate was at 179 and was the least amongst the other counties in the state.

There was a rise in the traffic cases in the region with the 2007 figures at 4050, up from 3891 of 2006. This accounted for over 4% increase in the number of accidents for the year.

Average Age of Driver

The average age of the drivers who were involved in auto accidents in the State of Michigan were 35.1 years and over 23.4% of the fatal accidents in the state were involving persons in the age group 16 to 24. The young drivers in the Monroe County accounted for 37.9% of the accidents.
