Dealing With The Insurance Company After a Michigan Dog Bite Attack

Our Michigan dog bite injury lawyers represent victims of dog bites and attacks throughout the State of Michigan.  Many times, the victim an attack is an innocent, young child.  Other times it is a neighbor, a jogger in a public street or park, or even a postal worker or utility worker.  Often, it is a family member or friend visiting another person’s home.

The homeowner’s insurance company of the dog owner will often contact the dog bite victim after the attack.  The adjuster assigned to the case is trained to obtain statements from the victim and witnesses that can be later used to defeat a valid claim.  For example, the adjuster may try to get a statement to prove that the dog was somehow provoked into the attack and therefore the insurance company is not responsible for paying the dog bite victim a settlement.

Our dog bite attorneys are often contacted after the insurance adjuster tries to get the dog bite victim to agree to a settlement amount that is far below the fair amount to compensate the person for the injuries.   Unfortunately, many times the person has already signed a Release of All Claims and we cannot help them back out the settlement agreement, even if it is tens of thousands of dollars too little.  If you have been approached by an insurance company to settle your case without having a lawyer, you should be very skeptical.

First, the settlement offer may be completely unfair to you and far too little to fairly compensate you for your injuries.  Second, you will be asked to sign a Release of All Claims that may contain language that can hurt you in the future.  Third, you will be waiving your rights forever so if you need medical treatment in the future, such as plastic surgery for a scar revision, you will have to pay for that yourself.  Finally, your health insurance company may later ask you to re-pay it for medical bills that it paid for your treatment.  You will have to pay this out of your settlement proceeds.

Our dog bite attorneys have obtained substantial Michigan dog bite lawsuit settlements for our clients. Many of these cases obtained reimbursement of medical expenses and provisions for payment of future medical bills.
