When a major airline crash occurs the NTSB assembles a “Go Team” to investigate the crash, make a factual report and determine a probable cause. The entire invstigation can take over a year to complete. The investigation group is divided into various committees, composed of NTSB personnel, airline representatives, pilot group representatives, air traffic control union representatives, airplane and engine manufacturer representatives. Those committees commonly include groups studying the areas of Operations, Structures, Powerplants, Systems, Air Traffic Control, Weather, Human Performance and Survival Factors.
When a plane crash occurs the air carriers, pilots unions, air traffic controllers associations, airplane and engine manufacturers all will be present and be part of the NTSB team investigating the crash.
