Is the medical coverage a Michigan motorcyclist required to have a Personal Injury Protection or PIP coverage?

No. The required medical coverage required of a Michigan motorcyclist is a specific coverage required to be purchased on your motorcycle insurance policy.

This medical coverage does not satisfy as part of the PIP medical coverage on your auto policy as well. The medical coverage by the new law is required on motorcycle policy, as opposed to medical coverage you may have elsewhere (i.e., on auto policy, health insurance, medicare, etc.)

The same goes for your health insurance coverage. Many Michigan motorcyclists ask: If I was injured in a Michigan motorcycle accident, does the $20,000 health insurance coverage satisfy the required medical coverage. Again, the answer is no. The medical coverage required by the new law is required on your motorcycle policy, as opposed to medical coverage you may have elsewhere, (i.e., on auto policy, health insurance, medicare, Medicaid, etc.)
