A Warren drunk driving car accident has left two people hospitalized following a head-on collision. The accident occurred on Van Dyke in Warren on December 4, 2008 when Hayssaam Boussi of Dearborn was struck by a 27-year old Warren man after the man suddenly veered across the centerline into oncoming traffic. Both drivers were taken to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital with serious injuries. Police suspect alcohol or drug use, but are waiting on lab results.
I am very sorry this accident occurred and I hope both drivers are able to have a complete recovery. I encourage everyone to be extra cautious and on the lookout for drunk drivers now that many people are celebrating the holidays.
Both drivers are eligible for Michigan No Fault insurance benefits, which will pay for medical expenses, lost wages, household replacement services, and long-term attendant care if it is warranted by the accident.
In addition, Hayssaam Boussi may be able to file a lawsuit against the other driver to seek additional compensation for his injuries because the other driver was at fault. If alcohol was involved, he may be able to sue a bar or restaurant that served alcohol to the driver, in a dram shop claim. Under Michigan law, he can only sue if his injuries are very severe. Since this depends on the exact nature of his injuries, he should speak with a lawyer as soon as possible to determine his rights.
