Detroit medical malpractice lawyers recently filed a lawsuit against a Detroit surgeon on behalf of a patient who underwent gastric bypass surgery. The suit alleges that the surgeon and the hospital failed to properly diagnose a post-operative leak in the patient. She was discharged home and two days later was transported back to the hospital for emergency surgery.
The patient suffered significant complications as a result of the undiagnosed leak. She was hospitalized for five months and on a ventilator for a substantial portion of that hospitalization. She required numerous other surgeries and procedures due to the sepsis caused by the leak. Once discharged home, she required home nursing care and rehabilitation.
The lawsuit was filed in the Wayne County Circuit Court in Detroit, Michigan. The case will be heard by a jury. No trial date has been set by the court.
