Settlement in MI Wrongful Death Drunk Driver Case

Comments (0)

A settlement was reached in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by our Michigan car accident lawyers on behalf of our client’s estate.  The lawsuit arises out of a drunk driver crash that occurred in Bay County, Michigan.  The claim sought damages for wrongful death on behalf of our clients surviving family members including his wife, children, and grandchildren.

A drunk driver crossed the center line on North Shore and Cody-Estey striking the vehicle our client was driving in head on. As a result, the victim suffered serious internal injuries that claimed his life.  He was pronounced dead at the scene of the car accident.

The intoxicated driver pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter charges and was sent to prison for a minimum of five years.

Our attorneys were contacted on behalf of the victims surviving family members to assist in the filing of a lawsuit.  We were able to help the family settle the lawsuit before going to trial.

While there will never be enough money to compensate for the loss of a loved one, it is important that family members of victims killed in a fatal drunk driver crash learn and understand their rights.

When a driver or passenger is killed in a fatal Michigan car accident because of the negligence of another driver, the surviving family members can file a wrongful death lawsuit against the at-fault driver. Under the Michigan’s Wrongful Death Statute, specific family members and heirs of the accident victim can claim money damages to compensate them for their loss. Damages for these claims include the pain and suffering endured by the decedent prior to death, the loss of society and companionship of the surviving family members, and loss of income and support to the family.
