Michigan nursing home abuse lawyers recently came across a report done by the Michigan Protection & Advocacy Service (MPAS), an agency that advocates for the rights of people with disabilities, that two women were neglected at two different nursing homes. Both womens bodies were infested with maggots.
One woman was a resident at the Cambridge South Nursing Home in Beverly Hills. This nursing home is owned by SavoSenior Care of Howell. Maggots were found in her trachea and she is hospitalized due to the infestation. The other woman is a resident at the Whitehall Healthcare Center of Ann Arbor, owned by LaVie Management Services. Maggots were found in her catheter and she was rushed to the hospital for treatment. According to MPAS, both women survived. Both nursing homes were fined between $34,000 and $17,600 by the Department of Labor and Regulatory Affairs.
MPAS has compiled a report that describes new examples of abuse and neglect among the 440 nursing homes in Michigan. Besides Oakland County, other counties where nursing home abuse was found to be taken place included Calhoun, Crawford, Genesee, Huron, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Marquette, Mecosta, Midland, Muskegon, Saginaw, Shiawassee, St. Joseph, Washtenaw, and Wayne.
Victims of nursing home abuse do have legal rights. Both of these woman whose bodies were infested with maggots is an example of nursing home abuse.
