Police Officer Injured In Saginaw Car Accident

Comments (0)

A Michigan car accident lawsuit was recently filed on behalf of a police officer injured in a Saginaw County auto crash. Our car accident injury attorneys are representing the police officer, who was riding as a passenger in a Huron County Sheriff vehicle that was transporting a prisoner.

A negligent driver struck the patrol vehicle at full speed after failing to stop for a red flashing light. The collision took place at the intersection of Center Road and Shiawassee Road.

As a result of the collision, the patrol vehicle sustained severe damage and was determined to be a total loss.  Our police officer client was taken by EMS to Covenant Hospital and was diagnosed with a herniated disc. He will require to surgery for the injury.

Michigan laws have specific statutes that address accidents in which a driver fails to yield at a red light causing a collision with another car.  Mich. Comp. Laws Ann. §257.612 provides that the driver is considered at fault and negligent if they failed to yield right-of-way to the vehicle of the plaintiff which was then and there lawfully within the intersection.

In addition to these laws, there are other claims for general negligence that our car accident lawyers will use to help the injured police officer recover maximum compensation for his injuries.

The Michigan lawsuit was filed in the Saginaw County Circuit Court against the at-fault driver and the owner of the vehicle that was involved in the accident.  The claim seeks damages for his pain and suffering and disability. No trial date has been set by the court.

Unfortunately, this is not uncommon for a negligent driver to run through a red light and cause a car accident.  In fact, running red light accidents are a common cause of serious injury because these crashes often occur at high speeds.  The unsuspecting car accident victim is not prepared and often has little or no time to take any action to avoid being struck by the other vehicle.
