Madison Heights Motel Drowning

Comments (0)
I read a tragic story about a swimming pool drowning at a Madison Heights Motel. Witnesses say that the six year old girl drowned at the Knights Inn motel swimming pool. Apparently, the girl was not supervised by a parent despite a sign posted at the pool. The pool closed at 8:00 p.m. and the girl was discovered in the pool at 8:15 p.m. Police are still investigating the incident.

I have handled several motel swimming pool drowning cases and these are terrible tragedies.  In one suit, two young men drowned in a motel swimming pool in Atlanta, Georgia. In that case, numerous defects existed at the pool and the required safety equipment was not present at pool side, including a safety hook and emergency phone. The pool was also not clean and it was difficult for others to see the boys below the surface of the water. The motel paid a settlement of $1.7 million dollars in a Michigan Wrongful Death Suit.
