Ice & Snow - Slip and Fall Injuries in Michigan - Slip and Fall Lawyer

The winter weather has finally arrived and this inevitably means that ice and snow will be accumulating on sidewalks, parking lots, and stairs.  Unfortunately, these conditions often result in slip and fall accidents that result in serious injuries.  Common injuries from slip and fall on ice accidents include hip fractures, broken bones, traumatic brain injuries, and severe back and neck injuries.

Many of these falls, especially with the elderly, result in conditions causing death.  In fact, falls are the leading cause of accidental death in the elderly in the United States.  Death can result from the immediate impact of the fall or from injuries caused in those fall that later contribute to death.

Under Michigan law, property owners and landlords have a duty to take reasonable measures to clear away snow and ice from parking lots, sidewalks, and stairs within a reasonable time after the conditions accumulate.  This means shoveling, salting, and taking any other appropriate measures.   When this has not been done and someone suffers a serious injury due to a slip and fall accident, it can often give rise to a personal injury lawsuit.

In a slip and fall accident lawsuit, the injury victim can seek compensation for pain and suffering, disability, medical expenses, and lost wages.  It is important to contact an experienced Detroit personal injury lawyer as soon as possible after the accident so photographs of the condition can be taken and other evidence, like eyewitness statements can be gathered.  This will give the victim the best possible chance of winning the case and receiving a settlement.
