Our firm recently filed a
gastric bypass surgery medical malpractice lawsuit for a woman who suffered severe injuries due to a gastric leak. The patient lives in Canada and came to a bariatric center in Wayne County, Michigan to undergo a laparoscopic Roux-N-Y gastric bypass surgery. She was hopsitalized after her surgery and discharged two days later.
On her way back home to Canada, she became severely ill and was taken to an Ontario Hospitals. She required emergency surgery to repair an anastomotic leak from the surgery. Due to the leak, she became septic and has had significant complications and medical treatment. She was also disabled for an extensive period and has incurred significant medical bills.
The lawsuit alleges that the bariatric surgeon and the hospital nursing staff did not properly monitor the patient after her surgery or detect her leak. The suit alleges that a timely and prompt diagnosis of the post-operative leak would have prevented her subsequent injuries. The case was filed in Detroit and is pending in the Wayne County Circuit Court.
