Food Poisoning Lawyer Discusses Michigan Kibbeh Salmonella Outbreak

Comments (0)

Our Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. food poisoning lawyers are reporting a recent Michigan kibbeh salmonella outbreak. According to the Michigan Department of Community Health, the salmonella outbreak is linked to the consumption of kibbeh at an unidentified Macomb County restaurant.  Kibbeh is a Middle Eastern cuisine that consists of grounded up beef or lamb mixed with cracked wheat, onion and a blend of spices.

Nine people were infected with the Salmonella Typhimurium virus after the possible consumption of kibbeh. Out of the nine people infected, six cases required medical treatment for their symptoms.

Salmonella food poisoning occurs when the small intestine becomes infected with bacteria that contaminates unsanitary food and water. Often times the injuries that result from salmonella poisoning can be devastating including organ failure, salmonella arthritis, and even Reiter’s syndrome.

If you or someone you know has recently consumed a kibbeh dish at a Michigan restaurant or elsewhere, you should be aware of the most common symptoms of salmonella food poisoning:

  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal Cramping
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Dehydration

Contamination usually arises from improper handling, preparation, or food storage. Good hygiene practices before, during, and after food preparation can reduce the chances of contracting an illness. You can protect yourself from food poisoning by choosing which restaurant to patronize. Restaurants are inspected by the local health department to make sure they are clean and have adequate kitchen facilities.

Victims who suffer salmonella food poisoning injuries after the consumption of food at a Michigan restaurant do have legal rights.
