The number of babies killed each year by Americans is grossly underestimated according to a recent study. This under reporting is also true for baby and infant deaths in Michigan. In Michigan, the homicide rate for these dates is only 7.1%, most likely very low for the number of reported deaths.
There are no national standards for agencies to investigate the reports of deaths to infants and babies and many are simply written off as SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), when in fact they are the result of intentional acts. Essentially, these people are literally getting away with murder because the deaths are not being fully investigated.
Michigan personal injury lawyers handling child abuse cases often perform a more detailed investigation than the investigating police agency. In many cases in which no homicide was reported, an investigation with medical experts can establish that the baby's death was caused by asphyxiation and even "shaken baby syndrome". These matters then give rise to a Michigan Wrongful Death Lawsuit.
