We recently settled a slip and fall case for a client who suffered serious injuries due to ice on the steps at her Battle Creek apartment complex. She suffered a serious ankle fracture that required surgery. The insurance company for the complex paid a $60,000 settlement, which included the medical expenses.
Under current Michigan law, slip and fall lawsuits in Michigan are becoming increasingly more difficult to win. Courts have been dismissing many cases under several different legal theories. However, cases involving ice at an apartment complex that result in injuries to the tenant can still be won. We filed our lawsuit in the Calhoun County Circuit Court and the case settled shortly thereafter.
